
Haiku - A short Japanese form of poetry consisting of 17 on (syllables) written in 3 lines. The line structure is 5/7/5 respectively. traditionally haiku contain a seasonal reference and a cutting word but this tradition is not stictly adhered to in other languages. Haiku is the plural from of haikai (verse)
Sonnet - A 14 line poem that follows a specific rhyme scheme and structure. The English also popularly known as the Shakespearean sonnet is written in iambic pentameter with a rhyme scheme of a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, g-g. "Sonnet" is derived from the Italian "sonnetto" which mean "little song" or "little sound."
Free Verse - a poetic form that requires no meter, rhyme, or other musical pattern yet allows for the unconventional incorporations of unique mixtures of the same.
